Getting a takeaway in Ripon

Most of Ripon’s takeaways sit within a few minutes’ walk of the Market Place. Kirkgate, the lane that runs from the square towards the cathedral, has pizza, Chinese, Italian and a curry house that has been shortlisted at the National Curry Awards. North Street, Westgate and High Skellgate cover the rest, so collecting on foot from the centre is easy.

The Market Place fills up for the Thursday market and the smaller Saturday one, and every night at 9pm the Ripon Hornblower sounds the horn at the four corners of the obelisk, a custom said to go back to 886. On race days at Ripon Racecourse, between April and September, expect the busiest evenings and longer waits.

Deliveroo doesn’t list any restaurants in Ripon; its nearest coverage is around Harrogate, about 17 km away. When we checked on 31 October 2026, Uber Eats showed only a small number of places for Ripon, many of them pubs, cafés and chains.
