Getting a takeaway in Whitby

Whitby’s takeaways split neatly around the harbour. Pier Road, on the west side, is the classic fish and chip strip, with the Magpie Café’s takeaway among them. Either side of the swing bridge, Baxtergate and Church Street have more chippies and a Chinese. Up on the West Cliff, The Parade on Upgang Lane, Argyle Road and Windsor Terrace are where you’ll find most of the pizza, Chinese and the town’s Indian takeaway.

Seven of the fifteen takeaways on this page are chippies, which is about what you’d expect from a town that’s famous for them. If you’re staying on the West Cliff, the takeaways up there are a shorter walk than the harbour, and a couple of them deliver.

Whitby gets very busy in the summer holidays, during Regatta and Folk Week in August, and at the Goth Weekends held each spring and autumn. When we checked on 31 October 2026, Uber Eats showed only a handful of places for the town, mostly pubs and hotels.
