Getting a takeaway in Arbroath

Arbroath’s takeaways are spread right across the town rather than packed into one street. Keptie Street and Fisheracre, just up from the centre, have the Fisheracre Chip Shop and Best Kebab and Pizza House. Down at the harbour, Marco’s on The Shore fries fish and chips in the pink building by the water and Friendlies does Chinese from East Grimsby. The Timmergreens Shopping Centre off Arbirlot Road has the Arbroath Fish Bar and the Great Wall side by side, New Beijing is on Mayfield Terrace, and Saffron and the Star share Millgate and Millgate Loan.

Chinese is the biggest group here, with six takeaways, and three of them take orders online: Golden City on Grant Road, New Beijing, which delivers across the whole DD11 postcode area, and Friendlies, which cooks without MSG. The Fisheracre Chip Shop, the Cairnie Chippy, which has been going since 1961, and Best Kebab also take orders on their own sites. Seven of the fifteen say they deliver, including Saffron on Millgate and the Royal Thai on West Port.

Deliveroo doesn’t list any restaurants in Arbroath; its nearest coverage is Monifieth, about 17 km away, with Dundee at about 27 km. When we checked on 1 November 2026, Uber Eats had no page for Arbroath at all. The town fills up in summer with visitors from the Seaton Estate and Red Lion holiday parks, and the Abbey Pageant, which retells the Declaration of Arbroath of 1320, brings crowds to the abbey grounds.

Good to know: if you’re after a smokie, that’s a job for the smokehouses on Seagate and around the harbour rather than a takeaway on this page. For hot food by the water, Marco’s and Friendlies are both a short walk from the harbour visitor centre.

How we choose

We list independent takeaways in Arbroath that you can order from direct, either on their own website or by phone. National chains, cafés and delivery-app-only listings are left out, and so is anywhere with a food hygiene rating below 2. Nobody pays to appear, and being listed does not mean a takeaway uses tastie. We checked every listing against its Food Standards Agency record and the takeaway’s own listings (its website, social media page or directory entries) on 1 November 2026. Menus, prices, opening hours and delivery areas can change, so check with the takeaway before you order.
