Takeaways in Hexham

Hexham is an abbey town in the Tyne valley, and the delivery apps have never really arrived. Deliveroo’s nearest riders are in Consett, so Hexham’s takeaways take their own orders, on their own websites or over the phone. These are the independents we could check.

Getting a takeaway in Hexham

Priestpopple is Hexham’s takeaway street. Pizza Pizza, Hexham Pizza and the Golden Rice Chinese sit along it within a couple of minutes of each other, a short walk down from the Market Place, where Paxton’s fries fish and chips opposite the abbey. Battle Hill, the road that climbs out of the centre, has the Golden Dragon and Oven & Grill, and Indus Valley serves curry from the yard at Hexham station.

Two of the eight take orders online: the Sea Chef chippy on the Priestlands estate, which is collection only, and Indus Valley. The rest take orders by phone. Hexham Pizza says it delivers to Riding Mill, Corbridge, Haydon Bridge and Bardon Mill as well as the town, so the villages along the Tyne aren’t stuck with a drive in.

Hexham gets its crowds on Tuesdays, when the general market fills the Market Place, on the second and fourth Saturdays for the farmers’ market, and on race days at Hexham Racecourse between March and December. Deliveroo doesn’t list any restaurants in Hexham; its nearest coverage is Consett, about 21 km away. When we checked on 1 November 2026, Uber Eats showed only a handful of places for the town.

Good to know: the Golden Rice on Priestpopple is cash only, so have some notes with you if that’s where you’re collecting from.

How we choose

We list independent takeaways in Hexham that you can order from direct, either on their own website or by phone. National chains, cafés and delivery-app-only listings are left out, and so is anywhere with a food hygiene rating below 2. Nobody pays to appear, and being listed does not mean a takeaway uses tastie. We checked every listing against its Food Standards Agency record and the takeaway’s own listings (its website, social media page or directory entries) on 1 November 2026. Menus, prices, opening hours and delivery areas can change, so check with the takeaway before you order.
