Takeaways in Penrith

Penrith sits just outside the Lake District, by junction 40 of the M6, and Deliveroo stops at Carlisle. That hasn’t held the town back: ten of the sixteen takeaways we checked take orders on their own websites, and its chippies have been picking up national awards.

Getting a takeaway in Penrith

Middlegate is the street to start on. Ken’s Fish and Chips, My Kebab, Sukiya, Indian Plaza and Deniz Foods are all along it. Burrowgate and Sandgate, just round the corner, have the Sandgate Chippie, Pappa Pizza and Ming’s Kitchen, and the Cornmarket and Great Dockray have the Little Chippy, the Courtyard Chinese and Dana Curry House. The Angel Lane Chippie is on the lane it’s named after, and Silver Ocean is out on the Gilwilly estate.

Fish and chips is Penrith’s claim to fame. In 2026 the Angel Lane Chippie was named best fish and chip shop in the North West at the English Fish and Chip Awards, and the Sandgate Chippie, run by the same owner, won the sustainability award and made Fry Magazine’s top fifty. Chinese is the biggest group on the page, with six takeaways, and seven of the sixteen say they deliver.

Deliveroo doesn’t list any restaurants in Penrith; its nearest coverage is Carlisle, about 28 km up the M6. When we checked on 1 November 2026, Uber Eats showed just one place for the town. The Saturday market at the Auction Mart by junction 40 and a monthly farmers’ market in Market Square bring people in, and the Winter Droving in late October or early November fills the centre with a torch-lit procession.

Good to know: the Courtyard Chinese closes for a holiday now and then, and its ordering page says so when it does. If it’s shut, Ming’s Kitchen and the Golden Boat both deliver and both take orders online.

How we choose

We list independent takeaways in Penrith that you can order from direct, either on their own website or by phone. National chains, cafés and delivery-app-only listings are left out, and so is anywhere with a food hygiene rating below 2. Nobody pays to appear, and being listed does not mean a takeaway uses tastie. We checked every listing against its Food Standards Agency record and the takeaway’s own listings (its website, social media page or directory entries) on 1 November 2026. Menus, prices, opening hours and delivery areas can change, so check with the takeaway before you order.
